Two longtime residents of Valley County recently made significant gifts totaling $286,000 to benefit the people of their community for generations to come.
Lloyd and Naomi Geweke of Ord used proceeds from the sale of a home in Arizona to fund three permanent endowments for Valley County through affiliated funds of the Nebraska Community Foundation.
Generous major gifts were made to Valley County Health System Foundation Fund; the Geweke Family Ord United Methodist Church Endowment and the Geweke Family Youth Endowment within the Valley County Community Foundation Fund.
An Ord man died Tuesday morning as a result of injuries he received when he came into contact with a live electrical wire at the Loup Valley Alfalfa plant in Burwell, according to Garfield County attorney Dale Crandall.

The Ord High School "Boys of Fall" traveled to Dawson County this past Friday night to take on the Gothenburg Swedes on a steamy August evening. Anticipation filled the air for this opening football game, the boys were super charged and prepared for 48 minutes of football fun.
