Fremont Pathfinders To Be At Ft. Hartsuff
On Saturday, July 25, 2009 The Fremont Pathfinder’s Cavalry Unit along with historian and writer, Jeff Barnes, will be riding in the Burwell Rodeo Parade and setting up base at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park for the weekend.
A freelance writer and fifth-generation Nebraskan, Jeff Barnes is a journalism graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a former newspaper reporter and editor, press secretary for then-Nebraska Governor Ben Nelson, past chairman of the Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission, and former marketing director for the Durham Western Heritage Museum. He traveled more than 13,000 miles in researching and photographing “Forts of the Northern Plains.”
Jeff will be available to autograph his books and answer questions after the parade at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park, located four miles north of Elyria, NE between the towns of Ord and Burwell.
The Pathfinders will be bringing a post surgeon and their cavalry unit will be performing tactical maneuvers and drills on the Fort parade ground, weather permitting. They will also bring one of the cannons and be giving lantern tours of the Fort Saturday evening. The group will host an old fashioned church service on Sunday morning.
A daily pass is $4 per vehicle or an annual park vehicle permit is required to visit the park. Permits can be purchased at Fort Hartsuff. For more information contact Fort Hartsuff at 308-346-4715.
