The Ord golf team continued it streak of bringing home hardware as the Chants took home the second place plaque in the Lou-Platte Conference Championship. The Chants shot a 338 on the day at Indianhead golf course in Grand Island. Gibbon ran away with the team title shooting a record 296.
"It was a beautiful day to play golf and we were very happy to get second place," Coach Mike Bechtold said, "Not too many teams are going to touch Gibbon's scoring, not even Class A. That was impressive."
Ord's closest competitors were Adams Central at 345 and Kearney Catholic at 356.
Individually, Brady Rogers was low man for the Chants, shooting an 80 on the day. That was good enough for 6th. Brant Bechtold shot an 84 for 8th and Jaden Barnes shot 86 for 13th. Grant Welniak also medaled, shooting an 88 for 15th place.
"It is great to medal 4 players in any meet, let alone conference," said Bechtold, "And it is cool that they are all underclassmen."
Ord's lone senior, Clayton Keown, shot 89 on the day to finish just out of medal contention.
"Clayton had a bad last hole that cost him a shot at a medal," Bechtold said, "He was disappointed."
Ord played its district meet at Indianhead Tues., May 14.
