O’Brien Third At
Centura Invitational
Brett O’Brien fired an 80 at Centura Hills Golf Club to take a third place finish in the Centura Invitational. Brett’s front nine score of 39 and back nine score of 41 were consistent enough to tie for second, with Brett losing the place on a scorecard playoff.
As a team, the Chants shot 356 and finished fourth of 12 teams. St. Paul won the meet with a 330.
Coach Mike Bechtold said it was a good day for the team as each player showed some improvement.
“I was excited because we had some low 9 hole scores,” Coach Bechtold commented, “Braden shot a 41 on the back, Jon shot a 42 and Tyler a 49. Those are improved scores for each guy. Ian shot a 44 on the front which was good, but had a rough back nine.”
Bechtold said that if the guys can shoot those scores on both nines, the team will be in the hunt for meet titles.
“We’re excited because we can see where we can be now.”

Chants Finish 4th And 6th At Conference Track Meet
The Ord High School girls and boys track teams finished fourth and sixth respectively at the LouPlatte Conference track meet last week in Hastings. The girls scored 69 points to claim their fourth place finish while the boys scored 49 points to finish sixth in a tight team race. “I felt like we started out a little slow and sluggish in the meet but as the meet went on I felt like our kids really competed hard,” Coach Derry Trampe said. “We looked a little tired and leg heavy at first but after we warmed up we seemed to really shift gears. I think missing a meet last week slowed us down a little but we need to be ready to compete when we get to a meet because we want our best performances all the time.” Adams Central won both the boys and girls team races by scoring 108.5 points in the girls meet and 92 points in the boys meet. Kearney Catholic finished as runner-up in the girls meet with 92 points while St. Paul was second in the boys team standings with 82 points. Rounding out the girls team scores were St. Paul (85), Ord (69), Wood River (65), Gibbon (56), Ravenna (16), Doniphan-Trumbull (13), Centura (12.5), and Loup City (10). Wood River finished third in the boys race with 71 points followed by Doniphan-Trumbull (57), Loup City (55), Ord (49), Centura (40), Kearney Catholic (37), Ravenna (25), and Gibbon (19).
